Dr Norm Habel developed the Earth Care Charter at the request of Lutheran Education Australia for their national conference in 2017. We are privileged to explore these themes in our chapel devotions and throughout the school in term 3. It will be interesting, and hopefully, rewarding to follow these developments. Below are Norm's six principles, and his underlying visions. These themes will be developed in our weekly devotions in chapel.
1. Earth is a Cosmic Sanctuary
Planet Earth is a unique sanctuary in the cosmos, a sacred site filled with Life and the presence of the Creator Spirit, the source of life.
2. Earth is a Book of Nature
Planet Earth is a Book of Nature in the library called Creation, a rare volume full of science, stories and stunning images.
3. Earth is a Web of Mysteries
Planet Earth is a wondrous web of inter-related forces, mysteries and mazes where we are all inter-connected and all belong.
4. Earth Is a Family Tree
Planet Earth is the ancestral head of a tree of living creatures with a family history that is vital for all members of her evolving family.
5. Earth is a Tough Love Mother
Planet Earth is the Mother of humanity who has nurtured her children for millennia and faced them with a life of tough love.
6. Earth is a Wounded Parent
Planet Earth is our wounded mother, calling for personal care from her children and deep compassion from the Creator Spirit
Perhaps it is
enough to know
that a yellow sun
through a blue sky
can paint the forests
the deepest green
