Thanks to Ms Crouch the ministry team has signed and placed a recycled plastic koala on our tree in chapel. It fits with our theme of examining, and being aware, of what is happening in the natural environment around us. The history behind it is below.
Koalas from Kangaroo Island were introduced into the Cape Otway region a number of years ago. They found a preference for the taste of the Manna Gums and have completely stripped all the leaves from these trees leaving them barren and without a source for photosynthesis. This results in entire canopy death leading to habitat and food declines for the koalas and a dramatically altered ecosystem.
